01Drag basic principle and safety margin setting
Traditionally, drag is set at about 25%–1/3 of the line’s pound test strength, which provides a margin so that the spool releases before the line snaps when the fish makes a sudden strong pull.

Therefore, star drag’s heat builds up quickly and friction can change, so for prolonged fights lever drag is preferred for safety.
