Omorig places the sinker and egi separately to quickly settle the center of gravity at the target depth. The heavy sinker drops first, and the egi attached to a 1–1.5 m leader rides the current, naturally attracting cuttlefish.

This setup is optimal for the 60–120 m depth and variable currents where cuttlefish primarily reside.

02How to choose sinker and egi according to depth, temperature, and current

In September, cuttlefish prefer water temperatures of 12–24 °C, and the West Sea and South Sea have an average depth of 70–110 m. Use a size 30 (≈110 g) sinker when the depth is deep and the current strong, and a size 15–20 (≈75 g) sinker when the water is shallow and the current weak.

Heavier weights settle on the bottom faster, reducing search time.

Egi color varies with depth and current. In shallow water with weak current, use natural‑colored (transparent or silver) egi; in deep water with strong current, attach a glow egi to the 1–1.5 m leader tip to increase visibility. This exploits cuttlefish’s sensitivity to water light.

03Optimal golden time by time of day and weather

Cuttlefish are most active within two hours before and after sunset. Evening tide with a westward‑flowing current lets the egi drift naturally with the current, raising bite probability. Especially late September in the West Sea, strong southwest winds increase the current to about 0.5–1.0 m/s.

  1. If the egi leader is too short, bite transmission weakens– Keep between 1 m and 1.5 m
  2. If the sinker is lighter than the depth, it won’t settle, reducing the search area
  3. Insert a plastic guard (spring) on the front of the egi hook to prevent hook injury
